    Chinese Tallowtree Genus Details
 
    This tree member of the spurge (Euphorbiaceae) family is also referred to as the "Sapium" genus (synonym). Tallowtrees have traits similar to poplars with alternate, lustrous, light green leaves that are 1-3 inches long with red leaf stalks. The trees reach a height of 40 feet and the flowers are usually insect-pollinated with little pollen shed. The fruit that is produced is a capsule about 0.5 inch wide with seeds coated with a miik-white coating. The waxy coating is used for making candles and soap.
